Dr. pharm. Edgars Liepiņš is the Leading Researcher of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis (LIOS). He is an experienced researcher holding a PhD in pharmaceutical pharmacology (pharmacy) since 2005. He has strong expertise in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, heart physiology, and molecular imaging in vivo and preclinical drug discovery. E. Liepiņš as the main author and co-author published 80 studies (H=23, Scopus). Many studies are related to the regulation of energy metabolism, emphasizing the role of long-chain acylcarnitines. E. Liepiņš has been involved in drug target search for the treatment of cardiometabolic disorders, which resulted in a set of patents and publications related to novel compounds for treatment cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, and diabetes. He has acted as principal investigator and project head in both basic and applied research projects. At present E. Liepiņš is Head of the Latvian Council of Science, project „Discovery of new drug targets in TMLHE knock-out mice” and leads In vivo ADME/toxicology Group in the Innovative Medicines Initiative ENABLE project. E. Liepiņš is elected as a Full Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Expert Commission in The Latvian Council of Science, and Scientific board of Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis.
